Berlin

So our little break from blogging inadvertently turned into a rather long one. Sorry for not updating in so long; life got in the way and left us with no free time to blog. Going forward we're going to make an effort to post more frequently so I do hope you'll stick around.

We have a bit of a backlog of posts to get through; first and foremost is the trip we took to Berlin before Christmas. Freezing temperatures failed to dampen our spirits and we really enjoyed exploring the city. Overwhelmed by the breadth of places to see and things to do, I bought a Lonely Planet guidebook which proved invaluable and comes highly recommended - it's split into sections by areas and neighbourhoods which was so helpful.

Highlights from the trip included: an afternoon at the Kunsthaus Tacheles and Kunst Werke, shopping for GDR era tat at VEB Orange, coffee and cake at Wohnzimmer, eating and drinking our way around the Alexanderplatz Christmas Markets, a Bombay Bicycle warm up gig at the Ramones museum, taking shots at the Absinth Depot, walking along the East Side Gallery, vintage shopping by the kilo at Garage, eating burgers in an old public toilet underneath the U Bahn at Burgermeister, exploring the nightlife in Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain and strolling through the frosty Mauerpark.

We'd love to go back soon, preferably when it gets a little warmer and we can brave the outdoors in less than four layers!

Some things I like

Dressing up for Halloween.

This concept.

This photo (and the rest of the set) from Tales of Endearment.

This book
I finally got around to reading; it comes highly recommended.

Nadinoo's AW11 collection, especially this amazing bird print dress.

Olympia Le Tan's milk carton bags.

Drinking bottomless cups of fancy rose and red berry tea from Storm.

Most everything from House of Hackney.

This sixties styled shoot from Self Service magazine, particularly how it's managed to make me lust after white pointed court shoes.

Listening to Florence's new album on repeat. A long time coming, but well worth the wait.

Hope you like the new feature, Ross's edition will be posted soon too. And if you have any book recommendations they would be much appreciated; I need something bloomin' good to read after finishing the Millstone!

An autumnal walk

Sunday afternoons in autumn are for wrapping up warm and going for long walks that come to an end in a cosy pub. Rusty leaves littered the quiet streets and kite flyers made the most of the winds whistling around Parliament Hill. Some adventurous swimmmers even braved the chilly waters for a swim in the outdoor bathing pools.

We ended our day in the Southampton Arms, a pub with a no nonsense approach to it's three pronged menu, consisting of ale, meat and cider. We opted for the latter two, with a pork pie split down the middle, and handle glasses filled with cloudy cider. The pub's well worth a visit if you like independent breweries and, er, meat.

We both piled on layers for the occasion, but neither of us were quite ready to dig out the winter coats; I wore all vintage save for my trusty New Look loafers, and Ross dug out the wax jacket from the back of the wardrobe. If only every Sunday could be so relaxing!

A Saturday in Camden

Much like exercise, work and Oxford Street, Camden market is usually something I actively avoid on Saturday afternoons. The crowds! The noise! The endless queues!

For one reason or another, Camden town was exactly where I found myself last Saturday afternoon, along with Ross and his best friend Karl. In a bid to avoid the crowds, we headed to the very back of the stables market and were pleasantly surprised. Whilst still busy, it was a great place for a mooch, with everything from exquisite Edwardian dresses to comic books from the seventies and a vast selection of perfectly battered suitcases that would have come home with me had they not been more than £30 a pop.

After the market we headed up towards Chalk Farm, which is where most of my favourite Camden vintage shops are. The Camden Thrift Store is always worth a visit as it's packed full of stock and really good value, with most dresses priced between £12 - £30. After much rummaging, I bought myself a new frock and we went to the Lock Tavern to drink cider in the unseasonably warm weather.
